Edition 23

What a crazy year that completely shook so many certainties and securities in our lives. However, we have not lost our confidence, because in the midst of these global challenges, we have also been inspired and motivated by many things.

For example, the many small and large events, design events and trade fairs that took place again at their fullest! At the Zurich Design Week or recently at the Swiss Innovation Forum and various other events, it became clear that the need for exchange is greater than ever, and that the young design generation is questioning a lot of the existing and daring something new — a courageous and necessary attitude in times of crisis. This is precisely why we believe that design will become even more important, because it has to do with all the current issues such as lifestyle, sustainability, consumer behaviour, etc.

The Design Prize Switzerland is – after a period of analysis – looking towards a new future. First of all, we have reconsidered the award categories, brought them up to date and added a new one. A year after introducing the category Going Circular Economy, we are going one step further and simply call it Circular Design, because the topic has finally arrived in society. And because food is one of the most important gamechangers in sustainability, we are launching the new category Food Design. Here you find an overview of the categories. The call for entries starts on 23 March 2023 and lasts until 1 June 2023, and the award ceremony will take place on 3 November 2023 in Langenthal, as always. At the beginning of 2023, the jury will be announced.

Speaking of communication: The latter is crucial, which is why we have also rethought and redesigned our website. A fresher look in neon yellow, a new font and a new type of tool are the most important changes: With the Design Guide, we are launching a curated platform for the local design scene and our network partners. Click here for the beta version. The Design Guide is an ambitious, long-term project that we are tackling with great passion — step by step. Because we are driven by the vision of not only awarding prizes for the best achievements in Swiss design, but also to develop the institution Design Preis Schweiz into a leading active Swiss design platform online in the long term. In this sense we say: Let’s get connected, let’s work together!
