Barbara Mutzbauer
Head of Design & Scenography

Barbara Mutzbauer is a scenographer. She stages messages in and with spaces. The narratives are wide-ranging, from commercial events to cultural interventions. The focus of her work is the conception and staging of tangible content in exhibitions, expos, installations and events. She is interested in the deeper narratives that captivate the audience and allow them to feel and understand spatial environments and atmospheres. Form and content merge for the viewer into a holistic experience that is sensual and makes sense. This communicative competence in design is a great concern for Barbara Mutzbauer.
She studied interior design in Rosenheim and Copenhagen, ethnology in Zurich and Munich and never stopped researching about spaces. She completed further courses at the Zurich University of the Arts and is doing her doctorate at the University of Potsdam with a research thesis on philosophical aesthetics.
She discovered the immense importance of atmosphere while working with the sculptor and stage designer Cornelius de Fries. She has lived in Germany, China and Switzerland and worked for renowned agencies, including Design Director at Schmidhuber (Munich) and Creative Director at Bellprat Partner (Zurich). Her projects included the House of Switzerland on the occasion of the Olympic Games in London. As a mentor and lecturer for Atmospheric Design at the Zurich University of the Arts, she is dedicated to the theory and teaching of atmospheric staging. Barbara Mutzbauer will be taking over the creative direction at MCH Global as Head of Design & Scenography from February 2021.
