Offi­cially a town since 1997, Langen­thal is the centre of the Bernese Ober­aargau with a catch­ment area of around 80,000 people. The town has good trans­port links and offers an excep­tional mix of culture, tradi­tion and busi­ness. Busi­nesses and up to 16,000 people who live here benefit from the favourable trans­port loca­tion and the high quality of life. Langen­thal has a very rich cultural life with cultural centres, events and artists from all fields. Various festi­vals and cultural events take place throughout the year. Club life is also very lively with 150 cultural, sports and leisure asso­ci­a­tions. The city of Langen­thal has been a partner of the Design Preis Schweiz for many years and has supported the national award for design since the early 1990s.
