For a long time, the building was incon­spic­u­ously located at Barfüsser­platz, until Herzog & de Meuron created more space and atten­tion for the historic cultural asset with the latest exten­sion in neo-baroque style. Inside the new building, deep red velvet walls recall noble screen­ings of bygone times, while the existing struc­ture was reno­vated with great atten­tion to detail and to the orig­inal building fabric.
