Since its foundation in July 2000, Chantal Prod’Hom has been head of the Musée de Design et D’Arts Appliqués Contemporains (mudac) [Museum of Design and Contemporary Applied Arts] in Lausanne. In this time she has organised attractive exhibitions in innovative formats (like the “Carte blanche” for instance), giving established figures of the design world as well as up-and-coming talents – like Matali Crasset, Pierre Charpin, Stefan Sagmeister and Adrien Rovero – the chance to have their say, so succeeding in making a comparatively small establishment into an institution of national, and indeed international importance. She has repeatedly shown that she has a sure instinct for contemporary issues, and has demonstrated great determination in pursuing her goals. The programme that has been developed under her direction, for which she frequently enters into partnership with other museums, has an impressive and exceptionally wide thematic focus. This stands for cultural openness and reflects the variety of the design scene of today. Design Prize Switzerland is happy to honour Chantal Prod’Hom with its Merit award. Both in her work as a museum director, and as an author and a member of committees, panels and juries of the design world, she has been a first-class communicator of contemporary design and has distinguished herself as a committed promoter of young Swiss designers.
