E‑Broidery® Lichttextilien

2013_E_Broidery_

E-Broidery® is the name given to these light textiles, which were developed under the auspices of a research project and brought to a point where they can now be launched on the market. These innovative materials are designed to meet both decorative and functional needs. They are equipped with electronic components like LEDs, sensors and solar cells, which have been incorporated in the various textile surfaces using embroidery techniques. After several years of research it has proved possible to realise E-Broidery® technology in such a way that the textiles retain such properties as softness to touch, washability and ease of folding. To reach this goal, components like textile cabling and techniques for manufacturing and incorporating LED elements had to be specially developed. Concrete application examples illustrate the design possibilities which can be achieved through the use of E-Broidery® in the areas of interior design and fashion.

Comments of the nominators

With its impressive material properties and processing characteristics, this industrially produced hybrid of textiles and electronics lends itself to innovative functions and applications. The altogether successful linkage of technology and aesthetics make this an impressive project, providing proof that Swiss embroidery and weaving skills can look forward to a dazzling future.
