dukta – flexibles Holz – eine Werkstoffinnovation

The object of the dukta research project was the development and patenting of an innovative method for the three-dimensional deformation of wood and timber materials. A special incision process gives wooden materials properties practically comparable with those of textiles. This is a significant extension of the qualities and areas of use of this traditional material. For example it now becomes possible to develop completely new and acoustically effective interior designs, which are meeting with great interest in contemporary architectural circles.
Comments of the nominators
A successful interdisciplinary partnership between design, wood technology, materials testing, acoustics and industrial production, in which design practice has been used as the engine of innovation.
