Heimliche Helden. Das Genie alltäglicher Dinge
Designed as a travelling exhibition, “Secret heroes – the genius of everyday things” shows thirty-six familiar but insufficiently regarded classics of everyday design. It offers information about their history, and introduces the public to the significance of these apparently insignificant objects. Showcases have been developed for each of the displays – the basic form and the materials match, but the colours, dimensions and features of the presentation are distinct and individual. Each box presents an exhibit, together with patent certificates, publicity materials and short films. In addition, the exhibition gives illustrative examples of the historical influence of these «secret heroes» on the design and art worlds.
Comments of the nominators
The exhibition designers have succeeded in creating a skilled presentation of apparently banal objects taken from everyday life. Each object is displayed in an individually customised cube, which illustrates its function in a teasingly flirtatious way. Diverting texts meanwhile convey interesting background information.
