Nominee | Fashion – Swiss Textiles Prize 2003 to 2019 | 2019
NINA YUUN
Having been born in the USA and grown up in South Korea, for the last four years, the centre of Stephanie Nina Yoon’s life has been Switzerland, where she made her début in 2018 at the Mode Suisse Edition 14 with her eponymous womenswear label NINA YUUN. Always searching for alternative forms of expression for feminism in fashion, her designs are a mix of elements of avant-garde elegance and casual formality. NINA YUUN stands for expressive and yet wearable clothing, characterised by a continuous interplay between experimental cuts and the reconstruction of materials and textures. Nina Yuun wants to see her designs regarded as statements about the subjectivity of stereotypes and individualism in society. She targets relaxed, urban women, who like to travel and appreciate cultural-ethnic diversity. Nina Yuun arranges production in South Korea, where on the one hand high environmental and social standards apply and on the other hand first-class quality at reasonable prices and delivery periods of only three weeks are guaranteed. In a globalised world with digital sales platforms that are available almost everywhere, she has her eyes set on a global customer base. In addition NINA YUUN has already been presented in Shanghai, Dunedin, Beijing, San Francisco and Seoul.
Comments of the nominators
The recently founded label NINA YUUN impressed at the Mode Suisse Edition 14 through its professional appearance, which was combined with a clearly recognisable design signature. Thanks to an innovative, but at the same time also elegant and balanced collection and thanks to a business plan that seems targeted and feasible, there is a realistic opportunity for the label to establish itself on the market.
