9.81 I Arbeits- und Leseleuchte

2009_9_81_Arbeits_und_Leseleuchte_

Based on LED technology, the study lamp/reading light 9.81 makes an immediate impression with its extremely streamlined formal appearance. Thanks to a battery and a simple hanging fixture, which makes it possible for the lamp to be attached to almost any horizontal surface, its uses are many and varied. The charging station for the battery has been designed as a floor stand, allowing the 9.81 to be transformed into a standard lamp. The functional qualities of the lamp further include continuously variable height adjustment, and a lampshade equipped with a tilting mechanism which makes it possible for the light cone to be focused appropriately. The 9.81 lamp was created as a BA project at the Zurich University of the Arts.

Comments of the nominators

A remarkably sophisticated and consistently realised lamp design, which achieves maximum quality in functional terms in spite of the minimalist formal approach and economy of materials.
