PLIER – ENTRELACER – SUPERPOSER
This project involves a textile installation which atelier oï realised on the occasion of Designers’ Saturday 2008, at the premises of the Langenthal carpet manufacturer Ruckstuhl. The idea arose from a visit to Ruckstuhl’s production department, when the attention of atelier oï was drawn to the manufacture of the linen bands which are used as surrounds when making up the carpets. The play of different techniques, such as folding, weaving and overlapping, gave rise to the discovery of various different structures and volumes. These then formed the basis for the design of an installation that is experimental and poetic at once.
Comments of the nominators
Age-old techniques – folding, weaving, stacking – have been used in an imaginative way to develop a new formal idiom. The character of the project as an installation suggests original ideas in the area of floor textiles.
