Couples

2007_Couples_

With her «Couples» collection, developed as a master’s degree project at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts, Antwerp, Arienne Birchler has pursued the aim of creating a fashion style for couples that eschews the typical partners’ look. Drawing their formal inspiration from the 1920s, the clothes are designed to make man and woman appear as mutual complements, while retaining their unique features. The difference between the sexes is not blurred, but becomes a leitmotif of the design. The collection includes fashions for six couples. Each couple resides in a different part of the world. The way they are dressed keeps alive the memory of past times.

Comments of the nominators

A romantic and appealing fashion style, involving the sensitive and wholly original realisation of an atmospherically charged theme.
