Plakatserie Museum für Gestaltung Zürich

In designing a series of five exhibition posters for the Museum für Gestaltung Zürich in 2005, as well as the invitations derived from the posters, the aim was to give succinct expression to the subject matter of the individual exhibitions, on the basis of a theme and variations, while at the same time focusing the attention on the serial character of the event – though without falling into a rigid and anonymous unanimity. The various content of the exhibitions has been interpreted with the help of pictorial and typographic resources. These combine to give rise to original pictures which probe the field of tension between image and text. These pictorial creations take pains to distance themselves both from the postmodern flood of images and from a functional layout template.
Comments of the nominators
An exciting and intelligent series of posters. Its wealth of visual invention, individual signature and admirable communicative facility are all impressive features.
Comments of the jury
This series of posters results from a fruitful cooperation between the designer and the commissioning museum. It has been realised in an inspiring and contemporary style, and its richness of invention is overwhelming. Strong and cheerful, charming in a way that is not typically Swiss yet at the same time obliged to the outstanding quality of Swiss typography, the posters have an exceptionally powerful effect both as a series and as individual works. And in spite of their concentration, they do the fullest possible justice to the selfwilled character of the medium. This is poster art in the best sense of the word.
