Visuelle Erklärungen Informationsgrafik

The purpose of this work is to develop an inventory of symbols for scientific information graphics, drawn from daily objects and materials. For example, the skeleton of an umbrella will be used to give a visual illustration of the flight phase of a mallard, or the sealing rings of pickling jars will serve for the visualisation of restrictions to the movement of the spinal column. A book explains the method, and illustrates all the major working phases of the project.
Comments of the nominators
The use of daily symbols and objects to facilitate the visualisation of well-known phenomena in natural science has resulted in pictures which strike us as familiar but at the same time tease the mind. In the present case the designer disturbs our set ideas and as a result succeeds in generating clarity. The phenomena under consideration become readable and perspicuous.
