Vitreous

Each year, around 10 million tons of construction waste are generated in Switzerland, including large amounts of ceramic. Despite its value, this material is rarely reused. The project reclaims sanitary ceramics such as toilets and sinks as a resource. Material experiments led to processes where ground ceramics are re-fired with recycled glass or small additions of raw materials, creating flat structures and cast objects. Fully recyclable, energy-efficient, and visually striking, the material demonstrates clear design potential, showcased in a lamp prototype. The project won the Bachelor Awards of the Swiss Design Association.
