Webnet Evo

The Webnet, a net structure knotted from stainless steel ropes and metal sleeves, is a product of the traditional company Jakob Rope Systems that has been tried and tested for many years. The flexible and transparent nets are considered durable and extremely hard-wearing. Accordingly, they are used in a variety of ways: as railing infill, as climbing aids for plants, as large-scale safety nets or in the construction of animal enclosures. Now a young civil engineer employed by Jakob has investigated the question of whether and how the net design can be changed without impairing its function. By making regular changes in the spacing of the pods, she created a variety of visually attractive ornamental net structures. In the process, she succeeded in developing a method with the help of which such design ideas can also be implemented as efficiently as possible in technical terms. Using this method, Jakob has already been able to develop several new types of net designs to production maturity, which are now being marketed under the name Webnet Evo. In the future, further unusual net structure variants are to be created on a project-by-project basis, for example in cooperation with architects.

Comments of the nominators

The novel, ornamental mesh structures of Webnet Evo are a visual delight in themselves and should help to further the success of this proven product. What is particularly remarkable, however, is the cleverly devised method, situated between design and technology, on the basis of which the net variants were created. It holds great design potential.
