NIEMANDSLAND – Eine Reise zu dem, was zwischen uns liegt
The installation “No Man's Land - A Journey to What Lies Between Us” is a project that can hardly be categorized. Its creator, Zurich-based artist, director, and musician Dimitri de Perrot describes it as a “partially mirrored immersive space, permeated by a driving composition of sounds and noises from everyday life.” The audience can expect a 60-minute piece played in a loop, somewhere between theatre, concert, installation, and party. The scenography consists of an empty hall sparsely lit by coloured light, in which four podiums invite the audience to sit down or walk around. Corresponding with the podiums are suspended ceiling elements. Both are partially mirrored. Curtains delimit and structure the space. Numerous loudspeakers, invisibly distributed at different locations and individually controlled, spread an acoustic network in the room that constantly changes depending on the location. Sound becomes sculptural here and a space-forming element. The interplay of sound, space and light gathers and disperses the audience of max. 40 people, who in this way become co-creators of the installation.
Comments of the nominators
An exciting scenography that manages to achieve a powerful effect with quite modest means. With his transdisciplinary narrative installation, Dimitri der Perot makes the concept of “space” tangible in very different ways.
