PHONOCUT
The production of a vinyl record requires professional technical know-how and industrial scale machinery. This statement, which was correct for decades, has lost its validity. PHONOCUT, the world’s first vinyl recorder for home use, now offers a device that makes it very easy to produce high-quality vinyl records – as individual items or in small runs. The developers of PHONOCUT – all of whom belong to the ever-growing group of vinyl enthusiasts – had clear goals regarding the appearance and function of the device: The vinyl recorder was to be given a formally simple design based on the design of high-quality hi-fi equipment. After connecting the audio source, it was to be absolutely simple to operate at the touch of a button, and it was to impress with the sound quality and precision of the records it produced. A specially invented system for replacing the cutting styli used to score the record made it possible to handle the device in a simple way. After a successful Kickstarter campaign, PHONOCUT will go into mass production in 2022 and will be affordable for many vinyl fans thanks to a reasonable pricing policy.
Comments of the nominators
A remarkable product innovation that is causing a stir among fans of the classic vinyl record worldwide and has already been experienced live in places such as the Dussmann Kulturkaufhaus in Berlin and the 25hours Hotel in Vienna. The device, which has been professionally developed on all levels, is convincing in both functional and aesthetic terms, as evidenced by the positive response in this international niche market.
