100% Nature Collection / V&R X CALIDA Capsule Collection
In recent years, the tradition-rich Swiss underwear brand CALIDA has become a pioneer when it comes to sustainability. Back in 2016, they were the first company in the industry to introduce the “Made in Green by OEKO-TEX” label, which is awarded according to strict social and ecological criteria and covers both the materials used and the manufacturing process of the products. In 2018, CALIDA launched the first fully compostable shirt made of Tencel Lyocell - a material manufactured from wood cellulose - which laid the foundation for the “100% NATURE Collection” that has since been greatly expanded. This new product line is “Cradle to CradleTM Certified”. This means that all the raw materials used for it are returned to the biological cycle. As part of the “100% NATURE Collection,” CALIDA presented the “Viktor & Rolf x Calida” collection in 2020 - as the first 100% biodegradable designer capsule collection to prove that high fashion and sustainability are not mutually exclusive. In spring 2021, the collaboration with Viktor & Rolf could see the launch of another product innovation: the first 100% compostable lace.
Comments of the nominators
When an established and important company like CALIDA designs a completely new product line according to the principles of the circular economy and successfully launches it on the market, it has a signal effect for the entire industry. The lingerie brand cleverly increases the appeal of its seamless products with the “Viktor & Rolf x Calida” collection and the innovations associated with it (compostable lace). Thanks to the designer collaboration, CALIDA reaches an audience that previously had little to do with ecology.
