First State of Matter
«Plasma Mirrors» thrives on the play of radical reduction paired with organic accents. The raw, plasma-cut edge gives the polished steel surface a surprisingly seductive detail with distinctive character. The product is offered at a moderate price, produced in Switzerland and convinces with a high-quality and contemporary presentation.
Comments of the jury
With his project, the young designer René Odermatt explores new approaches to production and combines them with artistic impulses. He makes plasma cutting his own and uses the properties of the technique to produce unique mirror objects in his own production. Through skilful reduction, the designer emphasises the peculiar cutting edge created by the melting cut of the plasma. At the same time, he creates transparency in production and has set himself the goal of producing the unique pieces as locally as possible and offering them at affordable prices. The jury recommends further deepening the processes, from sourcing the material to branding and shipping.
