Mono Alpin
The diploma project presents a recyclable concept for functional clothing in mono-material. The challenge was to produce waterproof seams without environmentally harmful adhesives from only one material. For this, cutting elements had to be redesigned and creative solutions for joining them had to be developed. An innovative ultrasonic welding process is used: the cut elements are joined together only with the help of heat and the addition of a polyester tape. The resulting line patterns give the sportswear an aesthetic recognition value and thus combine circularity with a refreshingly sporty look.
Comments of the jury
The project adopts an innovative joining technique that has been on the market for some time, but in this case offers processing in mono-material and thus good recyclability. The concise weld seams have been used coherently as a central design element, the garment accordingly has a high visual recognition value. Although the technology is still young, it is now a common process in the industry. While product and branding have been stringently designed, processes and feasibility as well as the challenge of circularity remain open. Therefore, in the further development of the project, an approximation to the market reality is advantageous. In a next step, for example, cooperation with one of the countless research departments of market-leading clothing manufacturers would be desirable.
