Solina Park
The project «Solina Park» is a unique, innovative and also playful-light multigenerational project. The starting point was the redesign of the large park of the Solina Foundation at Ziegelei in Steffisburg. In a participatory planning process, in which families with children, but also residents of Solina‘s retirement and care facilities actively participated, the park grew. Around a central narrative, the areas were zoned similarly to individual stories. The narrative approach takes into account the fact that intergenerational exchange cannot simply be planned as architecture or space, but always relies on moderation and animation as well. In this way, encounters between the generations are to be promoted with events such as theatre performances or concerts.
Comments of the jury
Intergenerational projects are justifiably experiencing a boom in Switzerland. While the majority of projects attempt to harmonise the needs of different age groups through architectural means, the Solina Park project takes a landscape architecture approach and has aptly recognised that social animation is ultimately also necessary to ensure the functioning of intergenerational projects. Designed around the narrative of a specially illustrated children’s book, the multifaceted park offers activities for young and old. A restaurant as well as various workshops and events complete the diverse offer of the inclusive project.
