Comments of the jury

With universally understandable images, the project «Sprechende Bilder» overcomes language barriers. The images, which are available as an app, enable professional medical treatment of foreign speakers without the need for a translator. A lack of language skills can have acute and serious consequences in medical emergencies – the tool provides a practical remedy and saves costs. The tool addresses the fact of the migrant population in Switzerland and goes some way to alleviating the burden on the Swiss healthcare system. Most importantly, however, it enables barrier-free access to healthcare for the entire population. The translation tool further demonstrates the effectiveness of visual design and convinces with a simple approach that is able to generate great impact.
