lichten Selbstleuchtende Stoffe

The warp is transparent, the woof made of the finest threads, incorporating an invisible optic fibre, as fine as a hair. Depending on the angle from which light falls in the course of the day, the substance will appear more or less transparent, and so will reveal either more or less of the pattern. When the light is diffuse you can see right through the fabric. At night whole areas light up, with the incorporated «light hairs» being activated by a luminous diode from the side. The vision of a soft, transparent, textile-based luminous body with Light Emitting Diodes (LEDs) seems not far away.
Comments of the nominators
This diploma study has the character of original research. It opens up new possibilities for «plastic optical fibre» incorporated in tissues. AWARD Nominated for the Swiss Textile Design Award.
Comments of the jury
The prize is awarded to an unusual method which opens up new possibilities of aesthetic impact. The combination of traditional weaving with the use of optic fibres is most impressive.
