Nominee | Furniture Design | 2003
MaRe Kippliege
Resting on a fixed and modest lower frame made of square pipes, the couch can be adjusted like a see-saw to any reclining position whatever. The invisible mechanism does not need either levers or pneumatic springs, the well-considered interplay of pull and pressure is all that it takes. The couch can be fixed in any position. With its modest design, it would look well in any domestic setting, yet at the same time has the character of an original. The lines of the edges and of the reclining surface form a trapezoid, which gives this article of furniture a look that is at once modern and timeless.
Comments of the nominators
Succinct in its symbolism, unambiguous in function, exemplary from an ergonomic point of view and innovative in its technical mechanism for fixed/flexible operation, MaRe has all the properties that it takes to become a classic.
